In 2019, WhatsApp was planning to release a ‘disappearing messages’, and the feature is successfully released last year, once the feature is enabled, the chat will disappear after 7 days, you can see how it’s done. Now, WABetaInfo (via Twitter) has discovered, WhatsApp is going to launch the same disappearing function on sent images.

The feature is pretty much like the feature used on Instagram, WhatsApp is also planning to release a similar function on its service app, photos will be deleted after recipients viewed it once. Also, very likely the received image will not be stored in the receiver’s phone storage or chat backups.

According to WABetaInfo on Twitter with few example screenshots, after an image is selected, tapping the icon ‘1’ before proceeding to send. After the recipient received the message, the image can only be viewed by tapping into the ‘tap to view’, then after viewing the image, the image will disappear once the receiver leaves the chat with a pop-up notification stating 'This media will disappear once you leave this chat'.

It’s also reported that the images sent will not be able to forward to another chat or exporting to other messaging apps, but it does not provide the information regarding screenshot prevention. It’s probable that screen capture can be the best way to capture these images before leaving the chat, so it’s advisable not to send any confidential images before a new measure is implemented.
